Considerations When Replacing Ductwork

At American Supply, we understand the importance of purchasing the correct mobile home HVAC ductwork for your home. When it comes time to replace your ductwork, keep the following in mind:

• R-Value (insulation rating) - Our flex duct has a higher R-value than that of standard homes, which are usually R-6. In standard homes, ductwork is in the walls or ceiling. In mobile homes, it is under the floors, where it is directly exposed to outdoor temperatures. Thus, mobile home ducts need to be better insulated (higher R-value). This is why we carry flex duct with an R-value of R-8, to prevent energy loss. 
• Duct Size - Properly sized ductwork ensures the correct amount of airflow is moving through the ducts and reduces the sound as the air flows. In mobile homes, the recommended duct size is 12”-14”, depending on whether they are main-flow lines or return air lines.
