Set-Up Materials

Mobile home anchoring is known as the process by which homeowners tie down or anchor their home to the ground. The purpose of this mobile home set-up is to keep the home safe during storms, especially against strong winds. The anchoring prevents the home from tipping over by ensuring that the weight is being distributed evenly. Mobile home anchoring is something that is required by the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) in most locations. Following these HUD regulations keeps your home and your family safe.

Mobile Home Anchoring & Set-Up Materials

We carry a variety of set-up materials to properly anchor your mobile home, including top brands in the industry like Minute Man. Below are the products we carry:

  • Plastic Pier Pad- Used as a foundation base and distributes the home's weight evenly.
  • Slotted Anchor Bolt- Secure straps to the ground anchors.
  • Glvanized Crimp Seal- A type of fastener that is used to connect the anchor and straps.
  • Frame Ties- In charge of securing the I-beam of the home into the ground anchors with steel straps. Sold with or without the hook.
  • Anchors- Different anchors are used depending on the soil class that the house sits on.
    • Barbed Rock Anchor- Used in rock or concrete
    • Twin Helix- Used in loose and weak soil.
    • Cross Drive Rods- Used in extremely hard surfaces, soil class 1

Considerations for Set-up & Anchoring

Before purchasing any of the set-up materials needed for anchoring your manufactured home, keep the following in mind:

  • Wind Zone- Determining the wind zone you are in will directly affect the number of anchors you will need to purchase. There are three wind zones: Zone I, which is the weakest & winds are no greater than 70 mph. Zone II, the middle zone, where winds do not reach over 100 mph. The last zone, Zone III, has the strongest winds, up to 110 mph. The lower the zone, the fewer anchors are required by the HUD.
  • Soil Type- The anchors that you will purchase will depend on the type of soil your home sits on. There are different anchors for rocky soils, clay or compacted sand, loose clay, and other weak soils. There are also anchors for concrete foundations. The soil is ranked on a scale known as the soil class. This can show you that a 36-inch anchor plus a 12-inch plate is needed for clay or sand areas.
