Mobile home walls are shallower than site-built walls. Standard residential aluminum windows are sized for deeper frames and will not mount flush without modification. The aluminum windows for mobile homes have large flush mounting flanges created for direct installation into mobile home rough openings. No shimming. No frame modification.
Mill finish aluminum has a bare metal appearance that matches older mobile home window stock. White finish matches homes with painted or vinyl-sided exteriors. Widths from 24 to 46 inches. Heights from 27 to 68 inches. If you need a different finish or configuration, Low-E Insulated Vinyl Windows and Insulated Vinyl Mobile Home Windows are also available.
The bottom panel slides up for ventilation and down to close. Interlocking meeting rails and built-in weep holes for drainage. Grid variants add a Lap 6-over-6 decorative pattern. Obscure glass options provide privacy in bathrooms and bedrooms without blocking light.
Pick up the same day at any of our 7 North Carolina locations in Fayetteville, Erwin, Sanford, Goldsboro, Winston-Salem, and Ramseur. Call ahead at 800-368-6208 to confirm which sizes are in stock.
A window that is off by a quarter inch in either direction will not seat flush in the rough opening. Four checks before you buy.
Measure the rough opening in the wall from stud to stud for width and from the header to the sill for height. Take measurements at three points each and use the smallest number. The rough opening is the hole in the wall, not the frame of the existing window sitting in it. Mobile home aluminum windows are sized for direct drop-in to the rough opening. If your existing window has an aluminum frame that is flush with the wall exterior, the rough opening is typically 1/2 inch larger than the window frame dimension in each direction.
Mill finish is the natural bare aluminum color. It matches older mobile home stock windows that have not been painted. White finish is coated for a clean painted appearance. If you are replacing one window and leaving others in place, match the finish to your existing windows. If you are doing a full replacement, either finish works with most mobile home siding. If you prefer a different material entirely, insulated vinyl windows are also available and offer better thermal performance.
Most standard room windows use clear single pane glass. Grid variants add a Lap 6-over-6 decorative pattern over the glass. Obscure glass has a frosted or textured surface that diffuses light and blocks direct views. Use obscure glass for bathrooms, bedrooms facing neighboring homes, or any opening where privacy is the primary concern. Obscure glass transmits light but not clear images.
Windows are on our non-returnable list, so confirm your rough opening size, finish, and glass type before you order. See our returns and refunds policy for details. If you are uncertain about your rough opening dimensions, call us at 800-368-6208 before ordering.
Yes. Mobile home rough openings are sized differently from site-built homes, and the wall profiles are shallower. A standard residential window ordered from a general hardware store will not drop in without frame modification. Aluminum replacement windows for mobile homes are sized with large mounting flanges for direct installation into mobile home rough openings. Standard residential windows also come with deeper nailing fins that require deeper wall cavities than most mobile homes have.
Common widths are 24, 30, 36, and 46 inches. Common heights are 27, 40, 52, 53, 54, and 68 inches. Your actual rough opening may differ depending on the age of your home and any prior replacements. Always measure the rough opening in your wall rather than the existing window frame. For a full range of sizes across vinyl and aluminum options, browse the mobile home windows catalog.
Yes. Aluminum frames conduct heat and cold more readily than vinyl or composite frames. In warm climates, aluminum frames absorb heat from the sun and transfer it into the home. In cold climates, they allow interior heat to escape through the frame. Single pane glass, which is standard in most aluminum windows for mobile homes, provides minimal insulation on its own. If energy efficiency is your primary concern, Low-E Insulated Vinyl Windows are a better fit for your home.
Aluminum frames do not rot or warp over time. The frame itself can last 20 to 30 years or more under normal conditions. Common failure points are the weatherstripping, the track gaskets, and the hardware. When the tracks become difficult to operate or the weatherstripping wears, it is usually the seals and hardware that need attention rather than the full window. Mobile Home Window Parts including track hardware and replacement seals are available separately.
No. Mobile home aluminum windows mount directly into the rough opening using the large flange as a nailing surface. Remove the interior and exterior trim, pull the old window out of the opening, set the new window in, fasten through the flange, and reinstall the trim. Most homeowners complete a single window replacement in under two hours. The job does not require professional installation for a like-for-like replacement.
You can, but it requires modification. Standard residential windows are sized for deeper wall cavities and come with nailing fins too deep for most mobile home walls. You would need to build out the wall framing depth and cut new rough openings to match the residential window dimensions. For a direct replacement without wall modification, use windows sized specifically for mobile home rough openings. If you are considering upgrading materials at the same time, insulated vinyl windows are available in mobile home sizes with better thermal performance than single pane aluminum.
