Flashing For Mobile Homes

Roof flashing is a thin, metal material used on the roofs of mobile homes. The purpose of mobile home flashing is to prevent water from leaking into crevices or weak spots in the roof, which leads to roofing and interior damage. Roof flashing plays such an important role in protecting your home that it is a requirement by the HUD. You can read about these requirements and regulations in a review by the HUD of manufactured homes.

What Roof Flashing Products Do We Offer?

At American Mobile Home Supply, we carry two types of roof flashing:

  • Galvanized - A steel material that is coated with a layer of zinc to protect against rust and corrosion. Heavier and harder to install, but more affordable.
  • Aluminum - A lightweight metal that is waterproof and easy to manipulate, making for easy installation.

Both options are available in different sizes. We carry flashing in 10”x50ft and 12”x50ft, allowing you to choose which would best suit your mobile home.

How to Know Which Flashing is Best for Your Mobile Home?

When it comes time to purchase roof flashing for your mobile home, keep the following in mind:

  • What is your budget? Galvanized flashing is more affordable than the aluminum options.
  • What type of climate do you live in? Aluminum flashing is the best option if you live in a coastal climate. This type of metal is corrosion-resistant, allowing it to withstand the salty ocean breeze. For climates that experience heavy rain or snow, the galvanized steel is a better option as it can handle the moisture.
  • Who is installing the flashing? If you are an avid DIYer and are going to be installing your mobile home flashing on your own, aluminum flashing is the route to take. This is due to the aluminum being more pliable, making for an easier installation process. It is also available in pre-angled pieces.
  • Which is stronger? Galvanized flashing is more durable than aluminum and, thanks to the zinc coating, is said to last up to 40 years. However, this coating can erode, especially when scratched, making the material vulnerable to rust. Aluminum is not as strong when it comes to heavy impacts and dents more easily, but it does have a natural corrosion-resistant layer that can self-repair.
